Reviews
Something titanic has happened, and the planets must be aligned for it to be true. I find myself reviewing another Rammstein album, not that far removed from my last one, which was the review for Mutter. But this time, I have the privilege of getting to review their newest work, Reise, Reise.I remember saying in the conclusion of my previous Rammstein review that with a little more work, they could really produce something special if they concentrated on what they’re good at. I’m pleased to report to you that Rammstein hasn’t come all the way yet, but this album is better then Mutter, in a lot of ways.

So Rammstein’s back, or so I’ve been lead to believe. This new effort, titled “Mutter” (‘Mother,’ for those who don’t know German,) is a better album than I expected it to be. However, given my opinion of Rammstein’s previous efforts, that fact may not save it.This album has some excellent instrumental work on it, but from my standpoint, it sounds a little too produced. “Mutter” suffers from the same problem as a lot of European power metal; it doesn’t sound genuine. There’s nothing personal about this album, no stamp of its creator placed on it to make it unique.

This CD comes complete with silly metal songs names like "Distortion Sleep," "Rejection Role," and other equally nonsensical names that are supposed to be intimidating. But this is still a good CD. Don't pay attention to the names. As a matter of fact, don't pay attention to the lyrics. None of it really makes a difference, and you've heard it all before. If you've heard one vaguely black metal band, you've heard them all.

Um, yeah. If you don't like Turbonegro, this won't change your mind. On a side note, I happened to see this band perform live when they opened for Queens of the Stone Age. When you see them live, they are humorously entertaining, energetic, and generally fun to watch. I suggest seeing them to anyone who enjoys a slightly more casual and less edgy concert experience. They're a lot of fun. However, on the album, they are less fun.

"Tonight the Stars Revolt" was a great album. An excellent piece of writing and performing that will go down as a hallmark for its time. "Transform" is not, and will not. If "Tonight the Stars Revolt" was a musical homerun, then "Transform" is more of a blooper to shallow center. It pops up with high aspirations, but doesn't get nearly far enough. Spider, what the hell happened?

This album was a pleasant surprise. I didn't go into this looking for much besides mass-produced gutter punk, and I was amazed at just how good it was. So much so, that I can't say that there are any bad songs on this album. "Calemocho" and "Say Goodbye" aren't exactly the pinnacle of musical genius, but they're not bad. Not to say this album is perfect. It's a great effort, and I can say with certainty that it achieves its goal. It provides good fast punk that has some flair for the old school, but doesn't really push the envelope.

First, a disclaimer. I am a fan of Anthrax. I enjoy their music, and I was excited to see this album come into our studio. This album could have been an hour of Scott Ian playing solo pan flute, and I would have found a reason to enjoy it, and defended it from hostile critics.

This is an incredible album. I went into this under the impression that Fear Factory was above average, but nothing more. This album has turned me into a big fan of Burton and his factory workers. Let me get the bad stuff out of the way, so I can have fun. Out of eighteen tracks, there are three that I'm not big on. "Resurrection" doesn't have anything special, "Refueled" is kind of average, and the quality of the recording for the live version of "Replica" is sub-par; it sounds shallow, and there's a little distortion.

Dear Ozma, Your music bores me, Love SteveIf boring was spelled O-Z-M-A, then these guys put the Ozma in boring. Ozma just simply lacks energy. If I could take just a little bit of ATP from the drummer of The Dillenger Escape Plan and give it to Ozma, I'd be happy, but I can't. It's not that Ozma's music is a "slow" boring, there's just a severe lack of creativity here.

I have to start off by saying I'm disappointed with this effort. Voivod was playing science fiction-themed semi-progressive rock back when no one had dreamed of such a thing. They were avant-garde, they were new, they were something that was a step separated from everything else, and they had class. But all that appears to be behind them now, and it leaves me wondering what's changed.
